Jacob Franklin

Jacob is the 2026 recipient of the Denny Tave Memorial Scholarship. A graduate of Freehold High School, he will attend the University of Miami this fall, where he plans to study Accounting and Finance at the Miami Herbert Business School.

Throughout high school, Jacob distinguished himself through his academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to service. He served as captain of the Freehold High School golf team and was an active member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.

Dedicated to making a positive impact in his community, Jacob volunteered with organizations including Food Stock, Open Door, Blessing Bag Brigade, and Adopt-A-Spot. He also devoted his time to serving residents at Springpoint at Manalapan, a local assisted living community. In addition, Jacob works as a golf caddy at Hollywood Golf Club, where he has further developed his strong work ethic and interpersonal skills.

Committed to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle, Jacob enjoys fitness and nutrition, spending time with family and friends, and playing golf. Honored to receive the prestigious Denny Tave Memorial Scholarship, Jacob shared,

Ryan Spencer Portrait

Ryan is our distinguished 2025 scholarship recipient. He will be attending Rowan University, where he plans to major in Marketing. Ryan has demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication as captain of Freehold Boro’s varsity swim team, a member of the volleyball team, and an active participant in the National Honor Society.

Beyond academics and athletics, he is the lead guitarist in a band, serves as an ocean and pool lifeguard, and has taken on leadership roles in BBYO. Ryan’s commitment to community service is evident through his volunteer work with organizations such as Foodfest and Habitat for Humanity.

Ryan shares, “I am extremely proud and humbled to have been chosen for the Denny Tave Memorial Scholarship. I hope to carry forward the Tave family’s values and uphold the legacy of Denny’s character to the best of my ability.”

Why did the scarecrow get a promotion? Because he was outstanding in the field. 

Spencer was the 2024 scholarship recipient and will be attending Cornell University in the fall of 2024. He was a varsity baseball pitcher for at Freehold High School, a leader in multiple organizations including president of BBYO, co-president of DECA and president of “Team Challenge” ( business ethics club). In addition to his school activities, he had an extensive list volunteer work. Spencer created FHS Peer Alliance which is a club that fosters the inclusion of students with disabilities and worked with “iCan Bike” which teaches teens and adults with disabilities how to ride a bicycle. These types of selfless acts are exactly the kind of things Denny consistently involved himself in and a large reason why he stood out among all the applicants.

Let's get a pizza for the table. Why?  Because, the table is hungry.

Yael was one of the first recipients of the Denny Tave Scholarship Fund in 2023. She played varsity soccer at Freehold High School and was valedictorian of her graduating class. Yael is currently attending Cornell University, majoring in Human Biology Health & Society on a pre-med track. She is also part of the running club, plays intramural soccer, and is in the outdoors club. Outside of class and her research lab, she enjoys hiking with friends in “Gorges Ithaca”.

What did one DNA say to the other DNA? Do these genes make me look fat?

Joseph was one of our first scholarships winners in 2023. He wrestled varsity at Freehold High School and was a state tournament qualifier. Jospeh is currently attending the University of Michigan and studying Mechanical Engineering. He is involved in clubs such as MRover (space rover design project team), Bluejitsu (Jiu Jitsu club), and Greek life. He also spends a lot of time going to sporting events and plans to study abroad for a semester. Joseph claims: “The Denny Tave scholarship, along with others, has allowed me to have a fantastic college experience, and for that, I am very thankful.” Go Blue!

*Denny was a master at telling bad jokes that always seemed to make him laugh more than others. It's because of this that we decided to require all scholarship applicants to provide us with their favorite "dad joke".  Enjoy!
